Don’t Sit And Wait For A Sign

My name is Courtney Henderson and for years I have worked on various campaigns as a campaign manager. I also serve as the chair of the Women in NAACP committee for the Brockton Area Branch NAACP and the vice president of the South Shore Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. (SGRho) Through the NAACP and SGRho, I have helped women of all ages enhance their leadership skills, negotiation skills and empowered them to excel. While my work continues with nonprofits, I decided to expand my work with my own firm which is based out of my hometown, Columbus, Ohio.

Do not sit around and wait for a sign to start a business or new interest

My biggest problem in life is that I suffer with imposter syndrome and can sometimes doubt myself, even when I have proven my talents and expertise with my successful track record. Another challenge that I face within my business is competing in an industry that is male dominated. I feel that I have to prove myself even more, which I find to be unfair.

My biggest advice that I would give to women is, do not sit around and wait for a sign to start a business or new interest. The desire and idea is already the sign.

We need to give space for women to shine and encourage them to be ambitious

I believe that woman to woman empowerment is important because in a world where women have been muted and silenced, we need to give space for women to shine and encourage them to be ambitious, even when we it may be hard.
