My name is Edie Weinstein and I live in Dublin, PA outside of Philadelphia. I am a Renaissance Woman- licensed social worker, psychotherapist, journalist, speaker, interviewer, interfaith minister, PR person and the author of The Bliss Mistress Guide To Transforming The Ordinary Into The Extraordinary. My focus is encouraging people to live rich, full, juicy lives.
My greatest challenge which overlaps into both realms, is that I am a recovering Type A+ overachieving workaholic and co-dependent people pleaser. It took a heart attack in 2014 at the age of 55 to remind me that the world will not stop spinning on its axis if I slow down. I say that the woman I was died that day, to give birth to the one who is typing these words and she had to die because she was killing me. I consider June 12 my re-birth day and I just celebrated my 7th cardiaversary. If I am to be completely transparent, I am a lifelong learner, so other health crises which necessitated hospitalization have occurred since then. Each time, I have allowed myself to receive from family and friends, rather than letting myself become depleted.
Take care of yourself with the same dedication as you do others.
My advice to women facing a similar challenge is, say yes to what you can wholeheartedly agree to do. Remember that you need to live with yourself 24/7 for the rest of your life, so the most important person to please is you. Take care of yourself with the same dedication as you do others. Offer yourself the same compassion and love that you do the people closest to you. Take chill time, doing what you love most and that replenishes you.
If we stand together and empower each other, we all benefit, regardless of gender.
Woman To Woman Empowerment is important because: Many of us were taught that women were not to be trusted, were gossipy and unreliable. Instead, I advocate for women buoying each other up, not bullying each other down, having each other’s backs rather than backstabbing. We know what it is like to live in a world in which the default is to succumb to the rules reinforced by a toxic form of masculinity. If we stand together and empower each other, we all benefit, regardless of gender. I am blessed to have had wonderful role models for independence and resilience, including my grandmothers, mother, aunts, cousins, and friends. They were/are powerful women who stood/stand up for their convictions and each other.
