Who or what inspired you to start your business?

My faith is very important to me, so I would say I was inspired to start this business as a way to act on faith. Ten years ago, I was reflecting on my own life growing up as a Pastor/Preacher’s Kid and the life lessons and challenges that went along with that. In that reflection, I felt this impression, which I believe was by God, to create this leadership experience and equip leaders in both faith-based and nonprofit organizations to handle the challenges of leading in today’s complex landscape.

“I was inspired to start this business as a way to act on faith.”

How do you manage your work life balance?

As you can tell from my Bio, I tend to have my hands in many different areas. On top of that, I am very close to my family and make it a priority to take care of them. I’ve been blessed to be able to handle juggling those responsibilities pretty well but in no way am I saying I’m perfect at it or that it is easy. If I’m overwhelmed, I reach out to those women closest to me that I know can help whether that be my sisters, my daughters, my best girl friends. They are always a listening ear, and when I need to be alone. I really enjoy the peace, quiet, and solace I find in fishing.

What has been your most satisfying or rewarding moment in business?

In my urban revitalization work, I had the chance to work with the Church my father pastor’s which had been (and still is) a pillar in the community of West Baltimore since the late 60s-70s. The building is a beautiful, gigantic stone building, but the inside needed to be updated. Not only was I able to project manage this and lead the redesign of the sanctuary, but I also was able to apply for historical designation for the church in Baltimore, MD and I know it meant a lot to the community. This is still my most rewarding also because it’s ongoing and we are now in another phase of redesigning a different part of the building.

“I can control how engaged with life I am, I can pursue the things I am passionate about as long as I’m living.”

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

It’s not as much life, as my wonderful, late-mother Gloria Allen, but she always said the phrase life has never been more engaging, and this is a simple reminder to enjoy the moments life has to offer. It’s also a reminder that I can control how engaged with life I am, I can pursue the things I am passionate about as long as I’m living

What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

The loss of my sister Talisa in 2004 to Breast Cancer has been the biggest challenge. My sister was young and she was just a support and rock for some many people. She was the type of person people who didn’t even know her felt comfortable around and was the biggest giver.

Seeing her keep her faith through the challenge, be a fighter, yet still come to peace with everything was an eye-opening, life altering experience for me. To see someone be that strong at their weakest moment had an indelible impact on me that I will never forget. And, I am ever grateful for my older sister.

“Women empowerment to me is encompassed in one word: SUPPORT”

Why is woman to woman empowerment important to you?

Women empowerment to me is encompassed in one word: support. I feel most empowered when other women support me, and I offer that same support and encouragement to other women. Building them up, showing up for and being there for them. This is what I hope all women would do as we strive to push for the things we plan to do in this world
